Perm krai is an object of Russian Federation, which is a part of Privolgskiy Federal Region.
Perm krai was formed on the 1st of December by merging Perm region and Komi Perm autonomous area.
Perm is a city in the European part of Russia, the administrative centre of Perm Krai and the river port on the Kama-river.
Perm krai occupies 160236,5 square kilometers on the eastern border of the Russian plain and on the western slope of middle and north Urals, where two parts of the world – Europe and Asia meet.
Perm occupies the territory of 799,68 square km. The city stretches 81 km along the Kama river. It’s the third largest city in the Community of Independent States after Moscow and Kiev.
The population of Perm krai is almost 3 million people. The urban population is 75,3%. The population of Perm is about 1000 000 people. The density of population is the lowest among other cities with the population of one million people. The inhabitants of the city are called permyaki.
The Kama is the forth longest river in Europe. It’s 1805 km long.
In Perm there are about 1400 streets and lanes. Perm is connected with five European seas: the Caspian, the White, the Black, the Asov, the Baltic.
In Perm there is the only one in Russia museum of political repressions “Perm 36”. It is the only prison camp op the epoch of GULAG (1929—1953).
The most famous museum of Perm is its art gallery, having a famous collection of Perm wooden sculpture. It also has masterpieces of Russian icon-painting (the collection of Stroganov’s icons), pieces of art, including the paintings of Repin, Levitan, Savrasov and Serov.
